BizTalk Documentor Update

with 4 comments

Darren has made available a new release (v.3.2.1) of the BizTalk Documentor. It fixes some long standing issues and also some issues that came up when used with BizTalk 2009. Check it out and let us know if you run into any problems.

We are planning some re-work of this tool as well as the venerable Orchestration Profiler  with a view to combining these tools and introducing new output types. We are also looking at fleshing out an API so that they could be used with other tools or in a programmatic way as well. For instance, in an earlier post,  I had voiced a wish to be able to link OrchProf with BizUnit so we could verify step execution etc directly from a test and make the test a bit more “white box”  (ok, so it wont be as whitebox as BizMonade but it could add more reach for BizUnit)   but at present there isnt an API that is surfaced to allow such a link. But this will change soon.

I have some ideas for other features as well which I will write about soon and there are a couple of requests on the forum to be able to link the documentor with BizTalkMapDoc which I will look into.

So if you have any feature requests, feedback and other ideas on how these tools could work together in your projects do send them along, preferably on the CodePlex workspace forums or feel free to contact me directly through the blog and let me know.

  1. Hi.

A really great idea to combine both Biztalk Documentor and BizTalkMapDoc.
    My wishlist for the products:

    1. Generating word-doc should not result in error.
    2. Possibility to add comments and save them in the documentation. This wil make BizTalk documenter a perfect tool to also comment on the interfaces.
    3. Possibility to add comments to the bizTalkMapDoc after generation. (and save them).

Thanks. I’m not sure about point (3) as I havent done a lot with the MapDoc tool but i will definitely look into it.

      Cheers,
      Benjy

  2. Hi Santosh

Would you like a copy of the MS build steps i did for these tools so you can possibly incorporate them with the distributable making it easy to plug them into a build process?

    Regards
    Mike
